Awesome Audio and the Power of a Speech
The power of speech, the art of rhetoric, the ability of a voice. Nothing makes the climax of a movie better than a good speech. From Denzel Washington's stirring closing statement in Philadelphia, Jack Nicholson's rant in A Few Good Men, or......well, a speech from any sports movie, nothing makes for a good show like a speech that stirs the crowds both on and off the screen. The art in a well done speech lies in that it gets us to root for the little guy, see the truth in a stirring statement, feel the motivation to cary on through overtime or believe in a cause. I chose this audio clip of Bill Pullman delivering a speech to the troops in the 1996 film Independence Day because it is one of those speeches that makes you in the theatre want to stand up and join in the fight. This clip is a great reminder of how powerful a speech can be (especially when accented by a great score).
